The Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act formed the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau and gave the CFPB power to regulate RESPA. In July 2011, the authority to oversee RESPA was transferred from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development to the CFPB. Now, it is the bureau's responsibility to draft regulations.
