Maryland Attorney General Anthony Brown announced that the state’s Consumer Protection Division entered into an $850,000 settlement with KVS Title, LLC and joint venture (JV) companies including Alliance Title Services, Clear Title Solutions, Eversure Title, Realty Settlement Solutions, Title Pro Group and Washington Title Team.
The division alleged that the JV companies unlawfully paid fees to real estate agents and brokers in exchange for the referral of consumers who purchased title insurance, violating RESPA and the Maryland Consumer Protection Act.
Under the settlement, the JV companies will be dissolved and KVS will be prohibited from forming any new JVs. KVS and the JVs will pay $850,000 in restitution to Maryland consumers and make a $200,000 payment to the division.
