National Association of Realtors (NAR) President Tracy Kasper will be stepping down after NAR said she received threats to disclose a personal, non-financial matter unless she compromised her position with the organization.
Kasper did not comply with the threat and reported it to law enforcement, NAR stated in a release. The leadership team added it was deeply concerned about any attempt to undermine its governance and is taking steps to protect the organization.
“As president and a long-time member of NAR, I always have put the interests of NAR first,” Kasper said. “As a result of the recent threat and given the significance of this moment for myself, my family and the organization, it is again time for me to put the interests of NAR first. So, it is with a mix of gratitude and a heavy heart that I submit my resignation as your president effective immediately. In doing so, it gives our leadership team the ability to take the reins and forge forward in effecting the change that we all have worked so hard over the past few months to begin. I know I leave our members, our staff and our association in good hands.”
Effective immediately, President-elect Kevin Sears will take on Kasper’s role.
Kasper stepped into the role as NAR president in August 2023 after allegations of sexual harassment against former NAR President Kenny Parcell were reported by The New York Times.
NAR stated it appreciated Kasper’s services and her years of dedication to the association, as well as her commitment to homeownership for all. Kasper is the broker-owner of Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Silverhawk Realty in Boise, Idaho, and a majority owner in two other Idaho real estate companies. With 30 years of experience in real estate, she has been a member of the Idaho Association of Realtors since 1997.
