Less than two months after being confirmed by the Senate, Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Secretary Julian Castro urged employees to work effectively with the Office of the Inspector General (OIG) in a joint letter issued with OIG David Montoya.
Castro came under scrutiny in his nomination process when a 2012 report from the OIG revealed that San Antonio misused HUD money for its Neighborhood Stabilization Program while Castro was mayor.
In the letter, Castro and Montoya urge HUD officials to understand the collaboration between the offices “is built on mutual respect, professionalism, and a shared mission to serve the American people.”
The letter urged employees to respond to OIG inquiries in a “timely and complete fashion” and that there is “no basis for withholding any information from OIG when requested.”
