The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau and the New York Attorney General have filed proposed settlements permanently banning a group of Buffalo, N.Y., debt collectors from the industry.
According to the proposed settlements, the companies together purchased millions of dollars’ worth of consumer debt, inflated those consumer debts and relied on illegal tactics to extract as much money as possible from consumers for their debts.
