President Donald Trump nominated Pam Patenaude to serve as Deputy Secretary of the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).
Patenaude, who currently serves as president of the J. Ronald Terwilliger Foundation for Housing America’s Families, was previously considered for HUD Secretary, which ultimately went to former presidential candidate Ben Carson. She served as HUD assistant secretary for community planning and development under President George W. Bush.
The nomination was received with support from the Mortgage Bankers Association (MBA), National Association of Realtors (NAR) and the National Association of Hispanic Real Estate Professionals (NAHREP).
“Pam is an exceptional choice for the position,” MBA President and CEO David H. Stevens said in a statement. “Personally, I have worked with her for a number of years and she is exactly the kind of leader who will help support the secretary and also address the critical issues ahead for HUD. She has a well-informed understanding of the agency, and essential technical knowledge of the real-estate finance industry. I would encourage the Senate to move swiftly in confirming her nomination.”
NAR President William E. Brown called Patenaude’s extensive background in real estate and housing an asset.
“Pam is an ideal candidate for the position; she understands the issues that impact the industry and our Realtor members. We look forward to continuing our work together with HUD and Pam upon her confirmation to ensure that owning a home remains accessible and affordable so that more individuals can realize their dream of homeownership. We encourage the Senate to move quickly and confirm her nomination,” Brown said.
According to a statement from NAHREP CEO and co-founder Gary Acosta: “Pam is well versed on the issues related to Hispanic homeownership and will do an outstanding job serving the nation’s housing needs. NAHREP looks forward to working with Ms. Patenaude and HUD to advance the association’s mission in the coming years.”
